For residents affected by Hurricane Ida, please see the infographics below regarding applying for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) assistance. They detail how the process works, who can apply, how to apply, what will occur after you apply, and the appeals process.
Please note that FEMA assistance is not a substitute for insurance. It is important that you also submit insurance claims for any damage, as FEMA will request this information.
The deadline to apply for individual FEMA assistance is November 4, 2021.
Please also be aware that FEMA has established a Disaster Recovery Center for Union County, where residents can obtain in-person assistance with the application process as well as additional information. The center is located at the Elizabeth O’Donnell Dempsey Senior Community Center, 618 Salem Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ 07208. The hours of operation are 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday and 8:00am to 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday.
There is also a mobile app for iOS and Android users to assist with the FEMA application process.
